Lyle Kirk Profile

The Erskine Family - Willie, Gillian, Hannah and Orla

Firstly, I would like to say how welcome the four of us have felt since joining the congregation!

A wee bit about myself, I was born in 1977 and Baptised at St Mark’s Greenbank Church in Greenock by Rev Alex Chestnutt. My family attended that church until it amalgamated to become St Luke’s. My mum is still an active member of the congregation at the Westburn. I didn’t become a member of the church until 2007 when I joined St John’s Church in Gourock after completing the Alpha Course.

I left a career in Engineering to start my teacher training in Secondary Education in 2007 and have not looked back since. I am now working at Rothesay Academy as Principal Teacher of Guidance and Teacher of Technological Studies.

My wife Gillian was baptised at St Lawrence’s in Greenock. She is also a teacher and works in Lady Alice Primary School. Gillian has often commented how welcome she has found herself to be as part of the congregation.

We attended school together at Greenock Academy and Rev Jill Clancy married us at Glasgow University Chapel in 2008.

We had our first daughter Hannah in 2010, when she was born she had a very serious heart condition called Transposition of the Great Arteries. She spent her first two months of life in Yorkhill Hospital in Glasgow and had her first surgery at about 8 hours old. She was the first child in Scotland to be treated using a specialist hypothermia treatment. When she was 13 days old she underwent open heart surgery to carry out the repair to her heart. To us she is just a wee miracle!

Our second daughter Orla was born in 2016. She is definitely the wild one of the family! She keeps Gillian, Hannah and I on our toes and there is never a dull moment when she is around! As she gets older I am sure you will all see her at church more often, then you will know what I mean about her being quite a character! Gillian and I are so lucky to have been blessed with two wonderful children who we love with everything we have.

Our children were baptised at the church earlier this year and we feel very privileged to have been welcomed into the Lyle Kirk family.
